Women's Organisations in Wesley Centenary

Methodist Women in Ireland (MWI)

According to MWI Secretary, Phyllis Watters, all women who are members of the Methodist Church are members of the MWI. Although some people have alleged that MWI stands for ‘Maddest Women in Ireland’, we are really all quite sane and respectable and utterly refute such scandalous slanders!

Miwi The MWI meets at 2.00pm on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays
each month, September to May.

The main function of the MWI is to support missionary and charitable work, but there are also speakers on a variety of topics and outings during the year. There is a Down District Rally of the MWI, at least annually.

The Secretary of the MWI is Phyllis Watters (9146 2587)

Young Women’s Association

Technically, the YWA is the ‘Junior’ section of the MWI. The two organisations were officially amalgamated by Conference some years ago and come together to organise the annual MWI/YWA service on Mothering Sunday each year.

The YWA meets at 8.00pm on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays
each month, September to May.

The YWA ladies have an interesting programme of activities and talks, some relating to charitable work, and others to things like beauty therapy and looking after pets (animals – not our husbands!). There is an annual Mystery Tour and a Summer Outing. The pictures show the Victorian Fashion Show staged for us by War on Want in 2010.

The Secretary of the YWA is Jennifer Mullan (9145 0416)
